IP Protection and Confidentiality Policy
This policy explains how ExpandoWorks handles client intellectual property, confidential project information, design files, and NDA requests during quoting, engineering, manufacturing support, and after-sales communication.
Last updated: 29 May 2026. This page is intended as a practical public statement of how ExpandoWorks approaches confidentiality and intellectual property. It does not replace any signed NDA, manufacturing agreement, design agreement, or service contract.
Client Ownership
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, all pre-existing intellectual property supplied by a client remains the property of that client.
- PCB design files and Gerbers
- Schematics, BOMs, drawings, and specifications
- Client-supplied firmware, software code, and technical documents
- Branding assets, product concepts, and project records
ExpandoWorks does not claim ownership of client-supplied intellectual property solely by receiving, reviewing, quoting, or supporting a project.
Confidential Handling
We treat client project information as confidential and take reasonable operational steps to avoid unnecessary disclosure.
- Access is limited to team members involved in quoting, engineering, support, delivery, or account handling.
- Project information is shared internally only on a need-to-know basis.
- We aim to keep commercial, technical, and client-specific information out of public-facing materials unless permission is given.
- We avoid using client information for purposes unrelated to the requested work.
Use of Client Information
Client information is used only for legitimate business purposes connected to the requested work, including:
- quotation and costing;
- design review and engineering support;
- manufacturing preparation, assembly, testing, and delivery;
- project administration, communication, support, and warranty handling;
- recordkeeping, traceability, and compliance requirements.
Controlled Project Sharing
In some cases, project information may need to be shared with carefully selected technical, service, or production resources strictly for the purpose of completing the requested work.
- Only the information reasonably necessary for the work is shared.
- Sharing is limited to project execution, support, or delivery requirements.
- Reasonable steps are taken in the ordinary course of business to preserve confidentiality.
NDAs
ExpandoWorks is willing to work under a Non-Disclosure Agreement where required. Clients may either request ExpandoWorks' standard NDA or provide their own NDA for review and signature.
No Public Disclosure Without Permission
ExpandoWorks will not intentionally publish, market, or reference client-specific project information, product designs, internal documents, or confidential technical details without permission, except where the information is already public, disclosure is required by law, or disclosure is necessary to perform the contracted work in the ordinary course of business.
File Retention and Requests
Project files and technical records may be retained for operational, support, traceability, backup, and recordkeeping purposes for a reasonable period. Clients who require special handling, restricted retention, or deletion requests should raise these requirements in writing before or during the project.
Client Responsibilities
- Ensure you have the right to provide the files and designs submitted to ExpandoWorks.
- Identify information that is especially sensitive or subject to special restrictions.
- Raise NDA, confidentiality, retention, or access requirements before production begins.
- Request special handling in writing where your project requires it.
